Subscribe To Us!

I recently added a plugin for our website that allows people to subscribe to our blog posts.  This will allow you to sign up to receive emails when we post something on our website instead of continually visiting it each day/week/month/year to check for updates.  Just enter your email address in the box on the left side of our website, and you'll get a confirmation email.  Click the confirmation link in the email and that's it!

(If you don't get the email, be sure to check your spam or junk folders so we don't get blocked!)

Website Woes, Baby Toes

So, our website was down for a few days due to some technical difficulties.  For a while, I thought maybe it was the blog software running this site that was bringing it down.  I'm happy to report, however, that after making a few nerdy configuration changes (memory heap settings), we appear to be back in business.

In baby news, the baby is moving A LOT!  Not only can Mary and I feel it moving, but we can SEE it moving every night!  I'm not sure if we're seeing feet, hands, head or rump, but there is definitely a lot of visible movement.  Mary is 35 weeks along now (which translates to just over a month to go until the due date for the non-baby crowd), and we're getting pretty excited.  Aside from boxes of Christmas decorations, the baby's room is really coming together.  Once we finish getting Christmas things up, I'll try to post some pictures.

Our Wedding Website

Some of you may or may not have noticed that our wedding website is no longer at windycityengagement.com.  Don't worry, it is still intact!  I archived everything to it's new permanent home at http://wedding.windycityminsters.com/.  There is also a link to it on the left side of our new website.  Since there are still a few outstanding items, like photographs, I'm sure we will have a few more posts there in the near future!

Keeping Up With Your Blogs

I know that our blog doesn't have a ton of traffic, but I do know of a few people who visit it fairly regularly.  I know that Mary and I both follow several people's blogs.  Visiting each website just to look for an update can get old really quick.  Wouldn't it be great if there was a way you could go to one place to find out if there are any new posts?

Well, good news.  There are several ways to accomplish this!  I, personally, use Google Reader because I follow many blogs and websites.  It requires you to have a Google account and does take a little bit to get used to the layout of the web application, but it saves so much time!  Think of it as a DVR for your blogs or a magazine subscription.  If you only follow a few, though, most newer web browsers have built in capabilities for this by simply bookmarking a feed URL (see below).

Once you have a Google account and are ready to start subscribing to blogs, you'll need just one piece of information from each blog: a feed URL.  Feed URLs are often referred to as syndication URLs and come in a few different formats.  The most popular feed formats are RSS and Atom.  Therefore, when you're on a favorite website that has frequent content updates, look for a link that is labeled Syndication, RSS, or Atom.  When you find that URL, copy it and enter it into your feed reader (e.g. Google Reader).

For our blog, you may notice on the left side at the bottom, links for both RSS and Atom feeds.  You can use either one of these to subscribe to our blog by entering those URLs into your feed reader.  Voila!  One-stop blog shopping!
